The America, arriving on Sept 7, 1915 at Ellis Island.

Letizia Raffaella Critelli is on line 4. It's interesting to note she was a Second Cabin Passenger & there were only about 285 passengers on the ship (although it's capacity was 2,650).

Grandma told stories of the ship traveling without any lights since it was during First World War, "the war to end all wars." It started in 1914 and ended 4 years later (armistice November 1918, treaty signed 1919).

She was 18 years old, single, a housewife, and her father, Antonio Critelli, was her closest relative in Gimigliano, Italy. Although there was another family from Gimigliano (the Pappaianni's) I'm assuming she traveled alone.

The manifest shows she was going to join her uncle, Francesco Critelli, in Jones Point, NY (Box 14). She had $40 with her and paid for her own ticket.

It also shows she was 5'1", healthy, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a mole on her right cheek.

You can also view the Commander's Statement and Surgeon's Report.
