According to Kyle Elwood, an Endicott genealogist, in an email dated September 1, 2001: "Some scribes who were not trained in 'English' misspelled Endecott as 'Gevvett' in old records. I discovered recently that the old English spelling for 'yon' is 'geon' so apparently the 'g' had a 'y' sound way back when." Endacot |
